The Vatican at night

We’ve seen many photos of St peter’s Basilica during the day. I spent a whole day taking photos from all imaginable angles back in May of 2012. But I made sure to go back in the evening and capture some twilight and night photos of the majestic basilica. The Basilica of St Peter's was a combination of various architects: Donato Bramante, Antonio de Sangallo the younger, Michelangelo, Jacopo Barozzi da Vignola, Giacomo della Porta, Carlo Maderno and Gianlorenzo Bernini. It is Renaissance and Baroque in style and it took 120 years to construct. The groundbreaking was on April 18, 1506, and it was completed on November 18, 1626.

These two photos show the well-lit church as twilight arrives and as nightfall comes along. As you may see the number of people meandering in the piazza late in the evening are few and far between. Bu this photographer certainly enjoyed the quiet atmosphere and the clear sky that created a splendid background.
